Signs Substance Alcohol Abuse Is Present

As the family and friends of an addict, you need to be sure that you are ever watchful that the people you love don't fall under the chokehold of alcohol - something which can put a strain on relationships that even the most patient would struggle with. This report is going to talk about the different signs and indicators which can suggest that substance alcohol abuse is common. From there, proactive steps can be taken to ensure that a line is drawn under the problem before it can develop any further.

Obviously, the first sign is that repeated offences are being made which are commonly associated with alcohol abuse. The main events include driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, binge drinking, and heavy-moderate drinking on a near daily basis.

The recommended guidelines for men and women when it comes to safe alcohol consumption are seven drinks for a woman per week and fourteen per week for a man. All in all, this means that a daily drink for women and two daily drinks for men is moderate and will do no harm. If the person you know drinks more than the appropriate level for them frequently over a seven-day period, this is a clear indication that alcohol abuse (at least) is possible.

Now - some people may not drink daily. Instead, they will opt to have more than one drink out when they are in a social situation. This is perfectly acceptable, although safe guidelines suggest that the body should not have to contend with more than three drinks in any one session. This can overwhelm the body in the processes that it has to undergo to accept the alcohol safely, and the excess alcohol can result in the intoxicating effects which directly cause 'problem drinking'.

The main problem with alcohol abusers is when they do not acknowledge that their drinking is causing a problem. For example, some people may drink in situations where they might have to conduct a role of responsibility; they may drink even though their friends have pleaded with them to stop; and they may not have the control to just have one drink in any drinking session where alcoholic beverages are being consumed.

For people at this stage, the main point of action which can be used to remedy the situation is outpatient rehabilitation, which is ideal for those suffering from substance alcohol abuse. Because of the way that the outpatients are only required to attend meetings on a set basis, they can continue with their lives as they try to better themselves from their challenging circumstances.

The rewards can be clear, especially when a person can manage their drink in a responsible way. Usually, those who do abuse alcohol can learn to be more controlling of their alcoholic intake, unless they have the desire and the self-control to simply cut the booze out of their life once and for all. You can find that it can vary on a person and their circumstances.
